A client in the Nashville, TN area is seeking a Manager of Software Engineering for a permanent position.

Job Summary:
Manages a team of 8-10 developers that are responsible for the design, development and maintenance of the client’s web presence. This platform includes applications and services as well as the website.

Job Responsibilities:
• Manages development resources including distributing tasks, maintaining workflow, supervising workflow and monitoring progress of projects. Communicates daily with team leads and developers to ensure resources are being fully utilized and that tasks are being completed according to specified timelines, budgets and quality/functionality expectations.
• Reviews project specifications and acts as a liaison between Information Technology developers, business owners and/or third party vendors to determine the project objectives, development needs and project budget and timeline.
• Oversees all projects involving Web development and services. Monitors applications to ensure they are running smoothly and evaluates where enhancements can be made to increase overall efficiency/profitability.
• Directs all personnel related activities of the Web Applications development team including hiring, termination, promotion, motivation, performance appraisals, salary reviews, incentive bonus assessments, career development and counseling.
• Interfaces with user community to help solve technical issues/problems.
• Attends project meetings, provides a comprehensive reporting of projects for review by executive management and influences priority of projects. Maintains an awareness of current business needs and offers suggestions on how IT can assist with meeting those needs.
• Supports other Managers as needed to assist with problem resolution particularly as the problems relate to the interaction between the applications.
• Works with the Quality Assurance group to ensure there is a seamless and error free installation of new applications or application changes into the production.
• Actively participates in strategic planning with the senior management.
• Works with senior management to develop the annual operating and capital budgets and is accountable for managing his/her portion of the budget.
• Keeps abreast of trends in the insurance industry or in technology through training, attendance at conferences and trade publication reading and incorporates those practices as appropriate.

Experience/Skills Required
• Requires 7-10 years of Internet based programming management experience, ideally including experience in Java programming, the AS400 and other related technologies.
• Ability to interpret information which requires the development and testing of new methods and/or concepts of analysis applicable to application/systems.
• Ability to develop innovative ideas which result in the creation of new methods, services or products.
• Ability to communicate both oral and written technical information to all levels of end users.
• Ability to effectively interact with all levels within the organization and outside vendors.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
